Choice for Children

Add a healthy dish to your children’s menu and win a gourmet chef experience.

The NIHF, in conjunction with the Food Standards Agency (FSA), is running a social media competition to recognise and promote hotel restaurants that are providing healthier menu choices for children. 

Entry
It’s easy to enter. Just take a photo of a healthy children’s menu dish and upload it at nihf.co.uk with the recipe by 10th May 2024. The Federation and FSA will then review the dishes before shortlisting the healthiest and posting on Instagram. The children’s menu dish with the most likes after a week will be the winner.

Prizes
Each shortlisted entrant will receive a special signed celebrity cookbook. The winner will receive two tickets to the Chef Dinner at the Merchant Hotel as part of Hospitality Exchange 2024, prepared by the yet-to-be-named celebrity chef.

Guidelines
The aim of the competition is to increase the choice on childrens’ menus and make them healthier. Your entry should:

• Include at least one portion of vegetables/fruit.
• Should not be deep fried.
• Have no added salt.
• Offer an alternative to chips such as boiled potatoes, rice, pasta, noodles or bread.
• Be appropriately sized for a child.
• Include ingredients that are higher in fibre and contain less salt, sugar and saturated fat.
