The Northern Ireland Hotels Federation has created a specific tailor-made course for the hotel sector in Northern Ireland. In doing so, they have partnered with the School of Hospitality at Cornell University and ASM Chartered Accountants to produce a programme which offers senior personnel the opportunity to experience a unique learning journey. This course is aimed at general managers, owners and those who have a direct impact on the development and decision-making within their business. 

The course will comprise of four elements:

  1. A two-day residential workshop in Northern Ireland exploring the mechanics of costing, internal benchmarking and profit realisation;
  2. An intensive executive management development course in the world-acclaimed Cornell University, School of Hospitality, in Ithaca, New York. This will include an accreditation from Cornell; 
  3. A benchmarking trip to New York City, exploring the city’s unique hotel landscape and learning how to attract visitors from this marketplace; and 
  4. A review and assessment of the lessons learnt and the practicalities of their implementation in Northern Ireland.


The dates of the programme are as follows:

  • 24-25th September 2012 - Industry Development Programme, Northern Ireland
  • 16-21st November 2012 - Cornell Development Programme and New York Learning Journey
  • 11th December 2012 - Programme Review, Northern Ireland
