Campaign for VAT Continues

21 August 2011

Chief Executive of the British Hospitality Association and speaker at this year's Hospitality Exchange, Ufi Ibrahim, has written to David Cameron about the major issues facing tourism.

A year on from the Prime Minister's assertion that tourism was essential to rebuild the economy, the barriers to growth are as high as ever. VAT has risen despite other countries reducing theirs, Air Passenger Duty has also gone up and red tape has mounted.

As an Associate Member of the British Hospitality Aassociation, the Federation has been in discussions with Ufi about the extra problems we face in Northern Ireland in relation to VAT and Air Passenger Duty.

The full letter can be read on the BHA website by clicking here and a further article in the Caterer & Hotelkeeper magazine provides background to the story (p20-21, 12 August 2011). An e-Petition on the Government's website is calling for a reduction in VAT to 5%. Please view and sign the petition here.

Ufi will be a guest speaker on the Future of Tourism at this year's Hospitality Exchange conference on 19th October in the Ramada Plaza Belfast. Further details on the conference can be obtained from the official Hospitality Exchange website here.
